Kong! Dare to discover something different, yet familiar, and fun with the 👑.
What a surprisingly fun movie. They did a fantastic job of building suspense into the film while simultaneously keeping things very light-hearted. There were moments where I caught myself giggling like a mischievous child waiting for the turn on a prank. Other moments I almost pissed my pants. The sheer size of Kong was so hilarious you can’t help but laugh at its comical monstrosity; but don’t be fooled. That’s the bait; luring you into a false sense of security.
Who lives and,…who dies? That’s just one of the many turns that keep you guessing throughout the film. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, they throw you off a bit with a slight but brilliant turn. It’s pure play, discovery and, pleasure. Like a bizarro Lego Movie.
One important caveat though…
…don’t expect a lot of character development or great moral exposition; or even victory. The best thing about this film is how it captures, and picture-perfectly blends in, the awe of play and discovery. Creators Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Dan Gilroy, Max Borenstein, Derek Connolly and, John Gatins almost make you believe that you’re seeing a Kong film for the 1st time. Like the first time you experience Pandora in the movie, Avatar. Just great.
